This Privacy Policy explains what personal data ScaleUp Africa (“we,” “us,” or “our”) collects through this website, why we collect it, and the choices you have. ScaleUp Africa is a women-led social justice, philanthropic investment and membership organisation based in Accra, Ghana.
1. Who We Are

2. Information We Collect
- Community/membership sign-ups: When you join our community via our sign-up forms, we collect the information you submit (e.g. name, email address, and any other fields on the form). These forms are hosted by Google Forms; your submission is also subject to Google’s privacy practices.
- Newsletter subscription: If you subscribe via our Subscribe page, we collect your email address (and name, if requested) to send updates.
- Contact form/email: If you email us directly, we collect whatever information you include (name, email, message content).
- Automatically collected data: Like most websites, we may automatically collect technical information such as IP address, browser type, device information, pages visited, and referring URLs, typically via cookies or similar technologies.
- Facebook Pixel: This site uses the Meta (Facebook) Pixel, which collects data about your visit to help us understand site traffic and measure the effectiveness of our Facebook/Instagram outreach. Meta may combine this with other data it holds about you, subject to Meta’s own privacy policy.
- Embedded content: Pages may embed YouTube videos. Interacting with embedded content may involve data collection by YouTube/Google, governed by their own privacy policies.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information collected to:
- Process and respond to community membership applications and enquiries
- Send newsletters and updates to subscribers who opt in
- Communicate with partners, funders, and prospective supporters
- Understand site usage and improve content and navigation
- Measure and improve the performance of our outreach and advertising
- Comply with legal obligations
4. Legal Basis for Processing
Where applicable (e.g. for visitors in the EU/UK), we process personal data on the basis of: your consent (e.g. newsletter sign-up, form submission), our legitimate interests in operating and promoting our mission, and, where relevant, compliance with legal obligations. For Ghana-based users, we process data in accordance with the Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843).
5. Sharing Your Information
We do not sell your personal data. We may share information with:
- Service providers that help us operate the site and our programs (e.g. Google Forms/Workspace, our web hosting provider, email/newsletter provider)
- Meta (Facebook), via the Facebook Pixel, for analytics and advertising purposes
- Partners and funders, only where necessary and relevant to program delivery (e.g. reporting impact data, never your personal contact details without basis to do so)
- Legal authorities, where required by law
6. Cookies
This site may use cookies (including via WordPress, Elementor, and the Facebook Pixel) to remember preferences, understand site usage, and support advertising measurement. You can control or disable cookies through your browser settings; doing so may affect some site functionality.
7. Data Retention
We retain personal data only as long as necessary for the purposes described above — for example, membership/newsletter data for as long as you remain subscribed, or contact enquiries for a reasonable period to handle follow-up. You may request deletion at any time (see Section 8).

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your data
- Withdraw consent (e.g. unsubscribe from our newsletter at any time via the link in our emails)

9. Children’s Privacy
This site is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

As some of our service providers (e.g. Google, Meta) operate globally, your data may be processed outside Ghana. We take steps to ensure such transfers are handled consistently with applicable data protection standards.
